This is a segment of the reclaimed wood flooring in theSAGE. With up to six different species of wood, this floor is made up of wood salvaged from dismantled buildings. It’s been buffed and will be sealed with a very low VOC sealer.

If you’ve been following our construction of theSAGE at the Arbor South Architecture Group on Facebook, you’ll know all the sustainable features we’re packing into 1,447 sq ft.
We’re targeting LEED Platinum and pulling out all the stops. This picture shows the 2KW solar photovoltaic panels. There’s also a solar hot water collector (can’t see it). Super insulation and more.
I’m going to get pictures of the reclaimed wood flooring and post those soon. Its looking incredible!

Chain of Eco Homes Competition
FreeGreen is a co-sponsor of a home design competition in Greensburg, KS. Greensburg was hit by an EF5, pretty much wiping the town off the map. They are committed to rebuild — and they are going sustainable.

Editable dwg files now available!
By popular request, we now have editable dwg CAD files available for any of our plans. Only slightly more expensive (at $750), these files will allow your local architect or designer to make modifications to our plan to better suit your lifestyle.

At long last, I think I’ve settled on a blog design. Thanks to the people at Pyzam. We’ve also cleaned it up and there are no more ads. After all, we want simple, not clutter.

Also, Arbor South is currently building theSAGE in Eugene, Oregon and it is targeted at LEED Platinum.

LEED AP
Well, I took the test and passed.
I am now a Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP for short — now I know why they abbreviate it!). It’s another step in learning and staying in touch with what’s happening in sustainability.
theSAGE
We are in week six of construction. theSAGE has roof, windows installed and we are now working on interior “infrastructure”. We are targeting LEED Platinum. We are pulling out all the stops — solar PV, solar DHW, massive insulation, small infill site, reclaimed and reused redwood from the Cuthbert Amphitheater benches (it’s incredible wood! Thanks to BRING Recycling for contacting us).
